Download This! PHILLY LOCAL PHILES: The Atomic Square and Band Name
Every Tuesday and Thursday at 2 p.m., John Vettese scans the best new music from the Delaware Valley on the Philly Local Philes. Today we’ll check out an epic experimental rock sprawl by The Atomic Square and a straightforward garage jam by Band Name.

The Atomic Square “Rising Tides” – Based out of South Jersey, this four-piece began as an instrumental band akin to Explosions In The Sky and The Album Leaf before meeting singer-guitarist Ete Ahphing in Spring of 2009. Ete brought a Jimmy Eat World-esque pop sensibility and a killer vocal range that rivals fellow local Andrew Lipke. Check out The Atomic Square live Thursday Aug. 19 at Johnny Brenda’s.
Band Name “Excitable Boy” – Fronted by Philly garage-punker Jeremy Gecker (a.k.a. Jeremy Jams) and joined by friends Cat Park and Greg Labold, the righteously-named Band Name plays spunky, back to basics rock and roll, no frills and no posturing. Dig this tune from their UK split 7? with The G, and catch them at Kungfu Necktie tonight opening for Univox.
