Twin Atlas (R.I.P.)
Philly’s Twin Atlas are calling it quits. And to celebrate their decade of indie rock hit making they are making all of their records available to download for free for one week. They’re going out in Web 2.0 style by making the first 3 ‘eras’ of The Twin Atlas, including their 2000 debut “The Philadelphia Parking Authority Must Die”, 2001′s “Kitchen USA” and 2003′s “Bring Along The Weather” as well as several other music including jams from the “Sun Township”, “Magic Car Wash” and “Good Light” albums as well as their new and final release “Bait & Tackle.”
Why is the band ending? In an e-mail Byrne told me: “Yeah, wrapping up the Twin Atlas, feels like the right time, all good. 150+ songs later, i think we’ve fully explored our turf. Really excited to wipe the slate clean and start some new music/new name, try out some different directions maybe.”
Since 2000 Twin Atlas have been the duo of Sean Byrne with Lucas Zaleski, who began playing together when they met at the University of Delaware in the early ’90s and began releasing music as The Twin Atlas in 2000. Byrne, who has drummed with some of Philly’s finest including Lenola, Mazarin, Matt Pond PA, Audible and BC Camplight, helped lead WXPN through it’s early years of Web 1.5-Web 2.0 when he worked at the station as a web producer and designer. We’ve always been fans of the the band’s gentle psychedelia and if you’re not familiar with the work of these studio masterminds, now’s the time to acquaint yourselves with the gorgeous mysteries of their jangly essence.
Get these CD’s while they’re hot (and available) for the next week. Meanwhile, you can also download a Twin Atlas sampler below. Thanks for all the great music, guys.
