The Key Studio Sessions: Fresh off its latest release, Grimace Federation performs a set of new songs

Back in November, Philly’s cosmic prog-punks Grimace Federation dropped their latest full-length, On Velvet. The release came with no small amount of blog buzz, as venerable indie-hiphop head Aesop Rock released his “butchered” re-version of the album’s lead-off track, “Bosico”, around the same time. But, though the members of the band loved the attention (and hope to work with Aesop again in the future), they were already on to the next thing. The recordings that make up On Velvet were approaching two years old, and another album’s worth of material was written in the downtime. The band treated us to a full set of these new songs when it stopped by XPN last weekend for a Key Studio Session. Tune into the Philly Local Second Shift tomorrow, January 13th, at 10 p.m., to hear me chat with the members of Grimace Federation about their creative process, the rabbit hole that is post-production, and their hopes for this new batch of music. And mark your calendar; they’ve got a performance Friday night, January 14th, at the North Star Bar.
