A burgeoning experimental group from the great Northeast, Power Animal takes a kitchen-sink approach to its heady, textured, Paw Tracks-aspiring pop. Old keyboards and samplers mingle with xylophone, violin, banjo, and…hold up, is that a didgeridoo? Impressive. After a busy 2010 and an enthusiastic reception to its debut full-length People Songs, Power Animal is prepping the followup Exorcism EP for release in the spring. Back in November, a track from it—“Better Water”—premiered on Weekly Tape Deck. You can listen below in this week’s Philly Local Philes, check out a stripped-down Power Animal performance this Thursday, Feb. 3, at Danger Danger Gallery, and catch them full-band style at The Ox on Feb. 19, opening for Grimace Federation and Circadian Rhythms.
