Emergent, elegant Philly synthpop act Void Vision is well-studied. Bending the polished dance tones of contemporary favorites The Golden Filter (and ’90s wavemakers Ladytron) across the harder ’80s edge of Tones On Tail and Twitch-era Ministry, singer/programmer Shari Vari effectively cross-sections three decades of electronic music. The result is at once dark and brooding, yet body-moving. On last November’s 8-Bit VVersions EP, she goes deconstructionist, reworking songs from Void Vision’s self-titled debut with the most minimal electronic sounds. While some cuts misfire, sounding like an arcade game gone awry, the style suits the music more often than not. Today’s Philly Local Phile digs into “Sour (8-Bit version I),” and leaves us wondering – will VV’s performance at the Balcony this Wednesday be lo-fi or high-fi electro? Void Vision performs with Action/Reaction, Kiss Kiss Kill, Whatever With Helena Espvall And Alien Architect, and Mikronesia at 8:30 p.m. at The Balcony At The Trocadero; tickets to the 21+ show are $9.
