Is Destroyer‘s Kaputt the beginning of the end for indie-rock’s recent appropriation of the sexy saxophone, or simply the end of the beginning? Chances are it’s the latter. Kaputt, released in January by Merge, seems like the logical follow-up to the efforts of acts such as Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti—who, in 2010, re-introduced the once-laughable music cliche to the world in a way that made the re-packaging palatable. (The best part? Ever since sincerity became the new irony, bands don’t even have to wink when they mine yesterday’s record bins for tomorrow’s sound.) Either way, anyone who hasn’t grown weary of soft-rock-revival’s hazy focus will get plenty of mileage out of songs such as Kaputt‘s title track—the perfect soundtrack for any summertime activity that requires no more effort than reaching for the next watered-down refreshment from the cooler. Destroyer performs with War On Drugs at 8 p.m. at First Unitarian Church; tickets to the all-ages show are $13.

Also playing: Royal Bangs + Fine Peduncle, Wigwams at Kung Fu Necktie (8 p.m., 21+, $10); Subhumans + M.D.C., Defect Defect, Sickoids at The Barbary (6:30 p.m., all ages, $12)
