Philly Local Philes: Download Norwegian Arms’ three-song Trimmings Of Hides EP
When Brendan Mulvihill got a Fulbright Scholarship to teach English in Tomsk, Russia, he had to downsize his musical endeavors. It was 2009, The Ox was still in its infancy, and Mulvihill (one of the founding members of that storied North Philly DIY space) went from having an entire warehouse’s worth of living and working space at his disposal, to a considerably more cramped and claustrophobia-inducing apartment. The only instrument he brought with him was a mandolin he’d owned since his childhood; he began re-learning how to play, documenting his culture shock in songs that eventually became the latest Norwegian Arms EP, Trimmings of Hides. On today’s Y-Rock Philly Phile (which airs at 2 p.m.) we’ll hear the jangly folk tones of “Run! Ran! Run! Rah!”; but for The Key, Mulvihill was cool enough to let us offer the entire EP as a download. Grab it below, and be sure to check out Norwegian Arms when they play at Kung Fu Necktie on Monday, April 25, with Cow Pals, Arrah And The Ferns, and Oh No Oh My.
