From The Rudman Institute For Entertainment Industry Studies and students in the Music Industry program at Drexel University:

Women are making a mark in all aspects of the music industry from artists to A&R reps, talent bookers, journalists and lawyers and their progress has not always been easy. The Rudman Institute for Entertainment Industry Studies and the Music Industry program in the Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts & Design host a “Women Rock” panel discussion tonight, May 5, 2011 at 6:30 p.m. in the Mitchell Auditorium of the Edmund D. Bossone Research Center (Market Street between 31st and 32nd Streets). Hear from some of the industry’s most accomplished women and find out how they broke down walls to build important careers.

Panelists include Rona Elliot (moderator), a respected music journalist and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame board member, who worked as a press officer at Woodstock and has reported on music for the Today Show; Joan Myers, a veteran publicist who has been a leader in marketing and communications for musical artists and concert tours (Bonnie Raitt, The Rolling Stones, Alison Kraus), awards shows and festivals; Vanessa Parr, a young recording engineer with The Village Recorder in Los Angeles who has worked with Elton John, Gregg Allman, Elvis Costello, Dixie Chicks, T Bone Burnett, and on films including Crazy Heart and Talladega Nights ; and Stacie George, a senior talent buyer for Live Nation in Philadelphia, responsible for booking artists into venues and festivals ranging in capacities of 1,000 to 25,000 people. Rounding out the panel is our very own Music Industry professor Marcy Rauer Wagman, who, in addition to being instrumental in implementing many of our innovative music industry curricula approaches, is an entertainment lawyer and songwriter.
