MP3: New song from Moonface (aka Wolf Parade/Sunset Rubdown’s Spencer Krug)
Spencer Krug of Wolf Parade and Sunset Rubdown fame released a new song yesterday via his solo project Moonface’s website. With plans to release his solo album Organ Music Not Vibraphone Like I’d Hoped on August 2nd, the new track is surprisingly not from the forthcoming LP. As Krug explained on his website,
“Here, take this. It’s a song that was cut from the record – an angry duck that didn’t get along with the other songs on the Organ Music LP. That is not to say it’s a bad song (though not to say it’s a good song, either), it’s just something I made that I don’t know what to do with. It’s more techno, or something, than the rest of the Organ Music LP. Less silky. But still, I thought it was worth sharing, for anyone who cares. It’s more than a pile of wet leaves. Maybe it’s something you can listen to while you do the dishes, or draw, or teach your baby to dance.”
It’s true that the song is not instantly silky, and the techno tones underneath Krug’s controlled-but-howling vocals can be a little startling at first. However, in true Sunset Rubdown fashion, the weirdness works to Moonface’s advantage. The track shares two further similarities with his other Montreal-based project: a lengthy run time of eight and a half minutes, and an even longer title, “The Way You Wish You Could Live in the Storm.”
Moonface will be performing at Kung Fu Necktie on August 4th; tickets are $12 and available here. You can listen to and download the new track below.
