Free show alert! Actually, two free shows! XPN is happy to announce that it will welcome the two-part Philadelphia Weekly Concert Series to the Piazza at Schmidts on Wednesday, August 17th and Wednesday, August 24th, both taking place from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.

The first concert on August 17th is Reggae Night, featuring reggae/jam bands Simple Minded Budz, mrCharlie, and Jah Works. Simple Minded Budz hail from New Jersey, playing original reggae as well as covers of legends and popular artists such as Bob Marley, Sublime, and Matisyahu. Local band mrCharlie will also be making an appearance, playing a mix of classic rock and soul inspired by the Grateful Dead. Headlining the show will be Jah Works, a Baltimore, MD-based roots reggae band. Their style incorporates elements of everything from hip-hop to pop to drum and bass.

The show on August 24th will be The Philly F/M Fest Preview Night. The evening will feature three local artists set to perform at this September’s Philly F/M Fest: Nicos Gun, Cheers Elephant, and Hezekiah Jones. The quickly up-and-coming Nicos Gun have been having a busy year with dance-party-inducing performances at the Roots Picnic, the 4th of July Jam on the Parkway, and Camp Bisco. Also playing will be Cheers Elephant, a four-piece rock group with an energetic, psychedelic vibe. Finally, XPoNential Music Festival performers and Shaking Through artists Hezekiah Jones will perform. The folk collective with a rotating lineup centers around frontman Raphael Cutrufello, and features a slew of amazingly talented and spirited young musicians on essentially every instrument you can imagine.

There will be an after party for the August 24th show at King’s Oak beginning at 9 p.m. with live music, drink specials, and giveaways. The rain date for the shows is Wednesday, August 31st. For more details on the entire event series, click here.
