Philly Local Philes: Serpent Throne’s “Headed For An Unmarked Grave”

When they’re not busy making Philly-focused documentary films (credits include 2009’s acclaimed study of the Barnes Foundation move, The Art Of The Steal) Demian Fenton and Don Argott are the dual guitar shredders at the front of Serpent Throne, an instrumental prog-metal / doom outfit that’s made an impressive racket in the Philly region since 2007. Their third album, White Summer*Black Winter, was released just under a year ago on Translation Loss Records, and the band takes the stage at Johnny Brenda’s this weekend to open for Purling Hiss and Pearls and Brass. That’s one riff-heavy lineup, folks; brace yourselves by digging into today’s Philly Local Phile, “Headed for an Unmarked Grave.” Serpent Throne performs at Johnny Brenda’s Saturday, Aug. 20, at 9 p.m. Tickets to the 21+ show are $10.
