Just under two weeks before Break It Up‘s performance at Kung Fu Necktie on August 28th, the new Philly trio has released its debut single, “Excavate.” The band—which “has been through several mutations in the last year, but recently cemented as a three-piece”—features Jen Sperling (ex-Conversations With Enemies) and Dan Morse (current Wigwams) on guitar and vocals, and Casey Bell bell on drums. The single was recorded and mastered by Jeff White, and makes for a great showcase of the band’s ’90s-indie-inspired, stripped-down-guitar-driven, post-riot-grrrl aesthetic.

Break It Up performs with Male Bonding and Love Inks at 8 p.m. Sunday, August 28th, at Kung Fu Necktie; tickets to the 21+ show are $10-$12.
