Elizabeth Ziman knows the exact culture her music appeals to because she has always been a part of it. Born and raised in the artistically relevant Greenwich Village, Ziman became accustomed to a free-spirited, musical lifestyle at a very young age. The Elizabeth And The Catapult frontwoman began studying classical piano as a child and eventually attended the Berklee College of Music for classical music. Nowadays her personal project, Elizabeth And The Catapult, veers far from her classical training and towards her folksy, New York roots. This homegrown, classically influenced blend can be heard on both of her full-length albums, especially her most recent, The Other Side Of Zero. It consists of indie pop that is bound together by eclectic instrumentation and strong piano leads, which are often performed with free-flowing hair and a floppy fedora. Elizabeth And The Catapult performs with Sonya Kitchell and Christina Courtin at 8 p.m. at the Tin Angel; tickets to the 21+ show are $10. —Caitlyn Grabenstein
