Title Tracks

SATURDAY, APRIL 7th
John Davis a pop-rock power house. By the time his last band, Georgie James, disbanded, he already had an album’s worth of solo material that would eventually become the debut album of his next project. Under the moniker Title Tracks, Davis has found a creative outlet that allows him to both collaborate and fly solo, and his strength is in knowing when to expand his sound and when to strip it down. Both Title Tracks albums are primarily solo affairs with guest appearances, but for his live shows, Davis expanded the lineup to play with a full band. Live, Title Tracks brings a different energy to the catchy, well-crafted songs that can be found on either In Blank or It Was Easy. Both albums are toe-tappers, but the Title Tracks show is a dance party. Title Tracks performs with Tin Horses, and Song Dogs And The Nightjar at 7:30 p.m. at Kung Fu Necktie; tickets to the 21+ show are $10. –Naomi Shavin

Folk bands are so prevalent these days that it can be hard to tell one banjo-strumming group from another. But local act The Lawsuits tries its hardest to pull from the crowd. The folk-rock band mixes male and female vocals and uses a variety of instruments to create its eclectic sound. On the band’s newest EP, Hot Love (released this week), The Lawsuits lean more towards the rock side of folk rock, especially during the guitar solo on “Long To Mend”. The Lawsuits give plenty of time to their folk side on the EP as well, but it’s clear rock and blues wins out. Whether they manage to separate themselves from the plethora of folk bands around Philly or not, it’s nice they keep the banjo to a minimum. The Lawsuits perform with Penrose, The Levee Drivers, and Mount Joy at 8:30 p.m. at Milkboy Philly; tickets to the 21+ show are $10-$12. –Nicole Soll

SUNDAY, APRIL 8th
Jeffrey Lewis And The Junkyard + Carol Cleveland Sings, Norwegian Arms at Johnny Brenda’s (9 p.m., 21+, $10); Bardo Pond + Psychic Ills, Purling Hiss, Creepoid, Night Beats, Spacin, Diamond Center, Psychic Teens, True Gold at The Level Room (8 p.m., 21+, $15)
