Brooklyn indie rock band We Are Augustines was formed in 2009 by Billy McCarthy and Eric Sanderson after the break-up of their band, Pela. The pair added drummer Rob Allen to the line-up prior to the release of their first album and collaborated with Broken Social Scene producer Dave Newfield to produce Rise Ye Sunken Ships, which was released independently in June of 2011. Drawing on their personal experience, the name of the album, and the album itself, is proof that the bandmates can rise above tragedy which included that death of McCarthy’s younger brother, James. The first single from the band’s album, “Book of James”, is a heartfelt tribute to McCarthy’s brother. Watch the video for the song below and listen to the song “Headlong Into The Abyss.”

We Are Augustines are currently touring with Counting Crows and will be making a stop at the Susquehanna Bank Center on Sunday, July 22nd (along with the Counting Crows) for the XPoNential Music Festival. The all-ages show starts at 6 p.m.; 3-Day Festival Passes include lawn admission to the Counting Crows show or you can buy a 3-Day Festival Pass that includes reserved seating to the show, both of which can be purchased here. Tickets to this show can also be purchased separately here.
