Legendary jazz guitarist Pat Metheny is touring this summer, making a stop at Longwood Gardens on Thursday, August 9th. Metheny recently released Unity Band featuring saxophonist Chris Potter, drummer Antonio Sanchez, and bassist Ben Williams. For Metheny fans, his new album is another outstanding recording that recalls his now classic 80/81 release that featured bassist Charlie Haden, drummer Jack DeJohnette, and saxophonists Dewey Redman and Mike Brecker. The Unity Band band swings with attention to traditionalist jazz detail; sophisticated songwriting, extraordinary soloing, a rhythm section that can take command of a song or let the melody gently guide you. When the band heats up, as they do on songs like “Signals,” musical fireworks go off. Up and coming sax player Chris Potter plays spectacularly throughout the album. Of course, there’s Metheny dazzlingly brilliant guitar playing in the middle of it all. Go here for tickets and more information.
