You may have never guessed that Canadian singer/songwriter Patrick Watson used to play keyboard in the ska band Gangster Politics. What began as a solo project has since emerged into a full band that dabbles in chamber pop, jazz, and alternative rock. First garnering attention for his album Close to Paradise in 2006, Patrick Watson’s music focuses on piano and sweetly tuned vocals, similar to a male Norah Jones with passionate and devoted lyrics. The fourth studio album Adventures in Your Own Backyard was almost entirely recorded in Watson’s home in Montreal. Adventures in Your Own Backyard is out now on Domino Records; Patrick Watson will be journeying to World Cafe Live on September 6, tickets are available here to this all-ages performance. Below, watch a video of Patrick Watson performing the title track to his new album at SXSW this past March, and also listen the impeccably beautiful tune “Lighthouse”.
