The Philadelphia acoustic  / electro rock group Grandchildren released their debut album, Everlasting, in 2010. Originally beginning as a solo project from Aleks Martray, who combined folk songwriting on top of electronic beats, it over time sprung into full six-piece group that’s gearing up to release its second album. Grandchildren released the first single off the new record, “Where’s the Knife,” via Paste Magazine. It is a sweet, melodic tune with an introduction that evokes sitting on a beach in Hawaii. Pounding drums, soft strings, and whistling bells remind me of Work Drugs’ lo-fi sounds but with a more orchestral lead. The vocals are fitting and preview what’s to most likely be a stellar new album. They play this Sunday opening for The Very Best at Johnny Brenda’s. Tickets are available here.
