Aaron Brown’s voice is so gentle and melodic, it’s surprising to hear that his roots lie in Harrisburg-area punk bands. Having moved to Philadelphia and immersed himself in the local scene, he explores an introspective folk-soul sound in Aaron and the Spell, one of the groups that will be featured on Helen Leicht’s showcase at Philadelphia Folk Fest this weekend. You can get a taste of what’s in store in this week’s Key Studio Session, which was recorded with a stripped-down version of the Spell – Claire and Alison Wadsworth on backing vocals and Ross Bellenoit on lead guitar. Bellenoit produced the group’s debut record Sing, which will be available at the festival, and which we’ll feature in an edition of Unlocked next week.
