This week’s Key Studio Session featured Atlanta-born trio John the Conqueror, a powerful blues rock outfit that relocated to Philadelphia last year. The band will be releasing its debut record on October 16th through Alive Naturalsound Records (you can already download a free studio version of the track “Time to Go” on their Bandcamp). Below, listen to John the Conqueror’s Key Studio Session take of “Lucille” and then head over here to download all three tracks.
Electronic/R&B producer How to Dress Well (Tom Krell) dropped a cover of Robbie Basho’s “Crystal Blue Fire” on his Soundcloud as a free download last week. Though he’s looking at the song through a different lens, Krell keeps the production hauntingly airy and sparse. You can also download a Pete Swanson remix of How to Dress Well’s “Cold Nites” here. How to Dress Well plays Johnny Brenda’s on Wednesday – you can pick up tickets here.
Rapper Young Gliss reworked Edgar Allan Poe’s poem “Annabel Lee” for his new track of the same name. The Philly native, who happens to be Questlove’s cousin, released an EP called The Glimmer last November and will be releasing a mixtape called High on a Week Day soon. Stream and download “Annabel Lee” below.
Wednesday’s My Morning Download featured Australian electronic duo Contrakids and their song “Cry.” The band has a bunch of free tracks up on their Soundcloud, including a remix of Bon Iver’s “Holocene.” Stream “Cry” below and download it in exchange for your email address.
Prowler covered INXS’ “Need You Tonight” for their We Can Do it Too EP, which is available on their Bandcamp as a free download. The local dance-rock group has a release show coming up at Johnny Brenda’s on October 13th for their Y’all Don’t Know EP. Tickets for the 21+ show are $10 here.
