Tonight’s Concert Picks: Grass Widow at The Barbary, Rickie Lee Jones at Sellersville Theater, Earth at Johnny Brenda’s
San Fran post-punk trio Grass Widow will be playing tonight at The Barbary. The bandmates – who take a firm stance against having a “front person” – are Hannah Lew on bass, Raven Mahon on guitar, and Lillan Maring on drums. All three contribute to vocals. The group started producing a collaborative 7-inch series called Common Chord and also started their own record label, HLR Records, on which they produced their third album, Internal Logic. Their all-ages show tonight begins at 7; tickets are available here. Below, watch a Twilight Zone-inspired video for their song “Goldilocks Zone” from Internal Logic.
Esteemed R & B singer Rickie Lee Jones will be performing tonight at Sellersville Theater as part of her The Devil You Know tour. The Grammy Award-winning songstress has wowed audiences with her voice since her self-titled debut album in 1979. Her newest album, The Devil You Know, features covers of songs by The Rolling Stones, Ben Harper and more. Tickets and information on tonight’s all ages show can be found here. Below, watch Jones perform “Sympathy for the Devil.”
Doom-y drone-guitar group Earth will be playing at Johnny Brenda’s on their tour supporting this year’s Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light: II, the follow-up to 2011′s Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light: I. The group’s heavy psychedelic sound is carried on a moody guitar played by frontman Dylan Carlson, who is currently working to launch a solo project, Falling with a Thousand Stars and Other Wonders from the House of Albion. Tickets for this 21+ show are available here. Below, listen to “The Corascene Dog” from Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light: II.
