Sub Pop musician Sera Cahoone released one of this year’s stand-out records with Deer Creek Canyon, an album rooted in Cahoone’s childhood home in the foothills of Colorado. One of Americana’s more confidently vulnerable voices, Cahoone shares a profound sadness with the listener through songs about homesickness, relationships and friendships. “Deer Creek Canyon” is one such song, with Cahoone singing about feeling isolated and lonely even though she is surrounded by people who love her.
Sera Cahoone plays Johnny Brenda’s tomorrow night with Philly’s Gretchen Lohse (Yellow Humphrey) and Nashville’s Rayland Baxter. Tickets and more information for the 21+ show can be found on XPN’s Concert Calendar. Below, download Deer Creek Canyon‘s title track and watch Cahoone perform a live version for KEXP (you can also download a couple of other songs here).
