Just Announced: Ultraista with Prefuse 73 coming to Underground Arts on 1/23

After a brief but successful U.S. tour in October, multimedia electronic trio Ultraista are returning stateside in support of their self-titled debut.  Formed in 2011 in London “on a mutual love of Afrobeat, electronic and dance music, visual art and tequila,” Ultraista combines the artistry of vocalist Laura Bettinson, famed Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich and ubiquitous drummer/producer Joey Waronker.  Their debut garnered praise from all corners of the blogosphere, earning them a slot on The Late Show With David Letterman and inspiring remixes by Four Tet and David Lynch.  It should come as no surprise that with the band’s love of Afrobeat and tequila (and their namesake being a futuristic 20th century Spanish literary movement), Godrich and co. take their electronic music in a warmer direction (than, say, Four Tet) on Ultraista’s debu,t mostly thanks to Bettinson’s pop-friendly vocals. Even so, the album is still happily full of disjointed continuums and fractured reflections of aural landscapes.  The band announced a string of tour dates with Prefuse 73 today, as reported by Brooklyn Vegan, and the show comes at Underground Arts on Wednesday, January 23rd.  Tickets and information will be available here. Below, watch the ultra-trippy video for “Bad Insect,” and grab a free remix EP here.
