Artwork by Steve Powers | Photo by Jesse Trbovich

As Philebrity reported last week, the cover art for Kurt Vile’s next LP is going to be a mural at Front and Master streets in Fishtown. Today, thanks to the above photo making the Facebook round, we got a look at the finished product. Guitarist Jesse Trbovich of Kurt’s band the Violators snapped the pic, but the artwork itself was done by Steve Powers, who you might know as the guy who designed and painted Mural Arts’ Love Letter to Philadelphia along the Market-Frankford El in West Philadelphia.

The text seems to suggest that the album will be called Wakin’ On A Pretty Daze, or it could be completely non-sequiter. In any case, I’m now about as excited to see this rendered on a sweet vinyl gatefold as I am to hear the record. (A pilgrimage to the site is also in order, naturally.) For more about the LP, which Vile compared to Fleetwood Mac’s Tusk in an interview with Spin, go here. And keep on the lookout for a documentary about the painting of the mural by by Don Argott, filmmaker behind 2009’s critically-acclaimed The Art of the Steal (and guitarist in shredding four-piece Serpent Throne).
