Today is National DJ Day. The date was chosen because it was on this day that the legendary DJ and rock and roll impressario and cultural entrepreneur Alan Freed died in 1965 at the age of 43. Freed was one of rock and roll’s first and most important DJ’s. Indicted for accepting payola and commercial bribery, Freed’s legacy looms large on pop culture.
