Philly garage-pop duo Bridge Underwater returned this week with their latest collection of free downloadable music, Dead Man. Whether that’s a reference to my favorite Jim Jarmusch movie or a bit of Beatles lore is unclear, but what I can say with certainty is this is another reliably catchy collection of scruffy rock and roll from John Basille and Pat Mellon. (Arc in Round drummer and engineer-about-town Matt Ricchini lends some keyboard magic to the songs too.) The title track is probably the most interesting moment, as it sees Basille and Mellon venturing out of the two-and-a-half minute nugget format into the zone of dramatic, ethereal pop.
