Utilizing field recordings of the Philadelphia ecosystem, live instrumentation and pitch-modulated vocal tracks, Hectic Zeniths takes an organic approach to electronic music on his upcoming Type One Era EP (set for digital and cassette release this spring via Buddha Tapes).  The music of Brooklyn-born Philly resident and high school math teacher Adam Morgan Prince falls somewhere between the mixed-medium approach of Four Tet and the chopped-up, piano-based compositions of James Blake’s Klavierwerke EP, capturing a slice of Prince’s environment during a particular time period that lives up to his moniker (“Hectic Zeniths” is an anagram of “Zeitschichten,” a German word for the phrase “layers of time”).  On the title track streaming below, Prince replaced traditional drum tracks with samples of 4th of July fireworks over the Delaware River and the pattering of rain on his window during a thunderstorm, with  Eric Lindley, aka Careful, contributing vocals.  Stream “Type One Era” below and watch a making-of video here to get the details on Prince’s recording and mixing processes.
