Tonight’s Concert Picks: Little Green Cars at Johnny Brenda’s, Lucero/Shovels and Rope at Union Transfer, Owen at First Unitarian Church
Ireland’s Little Green Cars arrive to Johnny Brenda’s to provide their indie/fifties influenced style tonight. The band has recently been touring to promote the release of their EP Harper Lee throughout the United States. Coupling the release of their EP, the band has been hard at work and will be celebrating their forthcoming debut album Absolute Zero. Set to hit stores and iTunes July 15th, the band will no doubt be playing songs off the record during their set tonight. The album is already available for pre-order on the band’s website here. Tickets and information for tonight’s 21+ show with Dan Croll and The Quelle Source can be found here. As fans await the release of Absolute Zero, enjoy the music video for “Harper Lee”.
Memphis’ country punk band Lucero will be playing Union Transfer tonight. The group will be playing material off of their eighth album, 2012′s Women & Work. Accompanying Lucero will be XPN favorite Shovels and Rope, which were placed in November of last year into NPR’s Heavy Rotation: 5 Songs Public Radio Can’t Stop Playing. More information regarding the show can be found here. Below is a music video for Lucero’s self titled song off their album “Women & Work”.
Mike Kinsella returns yet again to Philadelphia with his solo band Owen to the First Unitarian Church tonight. Two years ago Owen released his sixth studio album Ghost Town on Polyvinyl Records. Since then, Kinsella has been touring with his solo band consistently with bands such as Braid last August and Into It. Over It. Garnering the same amount of high praise his previous albums have achieved, Ghost Town follows Kinsella’s trend of emotional and shimmering acoustic music. Tickets and information for the all ages show with The Lighthouse and the Whaler and Slingshot Dakota can be found here. The video below is an intimate showing of Kinsella’s “Too Many Moons,” a song from Ghost Town.
