Prog rockers Umphrey’s McGee and Sound Tribe Sector 9 will tour together this summer, stopping at The Mann Center‘s Skyline Stage on August 30th. Blending the jam qualities of bands like Phish and The Grateful dead with the progressive / psychedelic rock hypnotisms of Pink Floyd or King Crimson, Umphrey’s McGee are the kind of band that morph each live experience into a once in a lifetime occurrence. They continue to tour in support of their 2011 album Death By Stereo, which featured songs from their live-setting rotation as well as new material.
Electronic rock band Sound Tribe Sector 9 will co-headline, touring behind their 2011 EP When the Dust Settles. Though they run their own label called 1320 Records, the “livetronica” outfit focuses primarily on its live act and has closely incorporated community service into its business model. Tickets for the show go on sale Saturday, May 4th at noon. More information will be available here. Below, watch Umphrey’s McGee perfom “Ocean Billy” live at Red Rocks and then check out STS9 performing “EHM.”
