Local indie folk outfit Norwegian Arms are pairing up with the Jazz Orchestra of Philadelphia for a special City Hall Series performance. It’s all a part of Make Music Philly, which will be bringing you free music all day, all across the city. Norwegian Arms released a great, quirky, emotive album earlier in 2013, Wolf Like a Stray Dog, that both displays a variety of styles but maintains a unique, cohesive sound. The Jazz Orchestra was founded by renowned trumpet player Terell Stafford, who also happens to be Temple University’s Director of Jazz Studies. These two great acts will be holding down City Hall from 5 – 7:30 p.m. Check out “My New Toy Piano” from Norwegian Arms below.

Indie rockers Low bring their famous live show to World Cafe Live tonight. The mellow, post-rock outfit released The Invisible Way, their tenth studio album, this past March. They will be joined by singer-songwriter Mike Doughty, who fronted Soul Coughing before going solo over a decade ago. His last album, The Flip is Another Honey is mainly a collection of covers, some very creatively done. Below, check out Doughty’s music video for “Sunshine,” where he raps in between John Denver’s signing. Also, take a look at Low’s new music video, “Make it Stop.” Tickets and information can be found here.

Song Dogs, a Philly Americana 6-piece, are playing a show at the North Star Bar. The bluesy, prairie-themed rock band released their first full-length album in January, titled Wild Country. You can stream and download it off of their bandcamp page (check it out below). They’ll be playing along with Stallions, Grip of the Gods, and The Parachuting Apostles. Tickets and information can be found here.

Indie emoish pop-punk favorites Tigers Jaw will be bringing their energetic live performance to First Unitarian, for perhaps the last time. In March, the five-piece announced that they were going on a hiatus after three of their original members decided to opt out of continuing in the band. Tigers Jaw last released a split with Code Orange Kids, The World Is A Beautiful Place…, and Self Defense Family; take a listen to their new tune “Fake Death.”Also on the bill tonight are Pianos Become the Teeth, Dad Punchers, and Nona. You can find information and tickets here.
