Tonight’s Concert Picks: Deafheaven at The Barbary, Last Full Measure at North Star Bar

By

Deafheaven

Unlike the pink album cover of their recent Sunbather LP would suggest, Deafhaven make loud, energetic post-rock with a heaping serving of metal influences thrown in. Sunbather (an album where the average song length is about 8 minutes) was released this June, and Deafhaven tour includes a stop at The Barbary. You can stream the diverse-sounding album below (and on Bandcamp) and you can find more information and tickets here.

Last Full Measure (brainchild of local Brendan Walsleben) are bringing their melodic, post-punkish sound to the North Star Bar tonight, and to the Philadelphia Museum of Art on Friday. At PMA, they’re playing together with Daniel de Jesus, a singer and celloist who plays with bands Rasputina and TivaTiva; tonight, it’s a solo Last Full Measure show for the North Star’s Victorian Dining Room series. Below, check out the track “Sellout” from Last Full Measure’s 2012 release Places, Everyone.
