Tonight’s Concert Picks: The Gallerist at North Star Bar, Bettye Lavette at Wiggins Park

By

the gallerists

The Gallerist creates catchy folk music with lush narratives and beautiful song structures; think a Philly version of The Avett Brothers. Although they only have one short album to their name, A Falling Waltz, it’s a shockingly good first release.  The group is playing a number of shows in the Philadelphia region and tonight you can catch them at The North Star Bar.  Click here for ticket information and listen to their tunes below.

Bettye Lavette has been around for a while, having her first hit single, “My Man – He’s a Lovin’ Man” in 1962 when she was just sixteen.  She’s been recording ever since, finally reaching a larger audience with her 2005 album, I’ve Got My Own Hell to Raise.  Lavette has one of the most powerful voices in R&B these days and you can catch this legendary performer tonight at Wiggins Park for free as part of the Sunset Jazz Series.  For more information about the concert, click here and check out a video for one of her more recent singles below.  With such a beautiful setting and an incredible singer for the low price of free, this is one show you don’t want to miss.
