Local musician / producer Khari Mateen tossed in a cover of George Gershwin’s “Summertime” to celebrate the season. Mateen gives the Porgy & Bess aria a funky make-over with staccato string parts and chunky beats. Fun fact – the lyrics to “Summertime” were written by DuBose Heyward, a relative of local singer-songwriter Heyward Howkins. Stream and download the cover below.

90s punk rock outfit Plow United have surged back onto the scene with this year’s Marching Band, the local band’s first album in fifteen years. XPoNential Music Festival 2013 performer Matt Pond recently released his Hole In My Heart EP, a four-track recording that includes a cover of Stevie Nicks’ “Wild Heart.” The Philadelphia native is scheduled to perform on the Marina Stage on Saturday, July 27th. Diplo celebrated a social media milestone this week – the producer / DJ reached 1 million Twitter followers. To show his appreciation, the former Philadelphia resident released a track called “Crown,” which features Mike Posner, Boaz Van De Beatz and RiFF RAFF.
