XPN welcomes singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Shuggie Otis to The Blockley tonight. Son of the legendary Johnny Otis, he wrote the soong “Strawberry Letter 23,” which became a huge hit for The Brothers Johnson in 1977. His 1974 album Inspiration Information was reissued this year with four previously unreleased tracks, along with a new LP called Wings of Love that features unreleased live and studio tracks spanning over two decades. Jimmy Eat World are playing the Skyline Stage at the Mann Center tonight, hot off of the release of their newest LP, Damage. Their first album since 2010′s Invented came out on June 11, and is available to stream through SoundCloud. Opening for Jimmy Eat World are Tennessee indie rockers Royal Bangs.
