Philly orchestral pop outfit Grandchildren are returning to Johnny Brenda’s tonight. The band released their folksy, acoustic-yet-electrified album, Golden Age, in May – a unique sound both classic and very modernized. Grandchildren will also be playing with The Eastern Sea and Ton-Taun. Check out Golden Age below, and find tickets here.

Jazzy funk/hip-hop collective Black Landlord are bringing the party to Milkboy tonight. Seriously. The Philly 9-piece creates great jazz and funk tunes and spits catchy raps – both of which hold equal weight in their music. The show is free, and the first of  Milkboy’s 2nd anniversary shows this week. Also playing are El Malito, DJ Kim Jong Ill, and others. Find more information here, and listen to Black Landlord’s 2011 release, What You Mean To We below.

Local Psychedelic favorites Light Heat will be headlining a free show at the Race Street Pier tonight. They released their debut, self-titled LP this June, and their lineup includes members from The Walkmen, Blood Feathers, and Fleet Foxes. Light Heat stopped by XPN to record a studio session for The Key earlier this summer – check out “The Mirror” below. The free concert will also feature performances from Philly’s Bardo Pond and Chris Forsyth.
