We all know that feeling of driving with the windows down on a sunny, cloudless day.

But those sun-in-face, wind-in-hair kind of days don’t stop the raindrops from unexpectedly and inexplicably landing on the windshield, foreshadowing inclement weather up ahead.

It’s this situation and feeling that Doylestown-based alternative rock band Balance and Composure frontman Jon Simmons tapped into when writing “Tiny Raindrop,” the second single off the band’s sophomore album The Things We Think We’re Missing, which will be released tomorrow via No Sleep Records. With loud drums and echoing vocals that lead into a guitar-heavy, dissonant chorus, Simmons used this rain imagery to relay his realization of being the person to regularly ruin relationships, despite the sunny skies that come first.

“Even if I could I would never let you know / So come with me I’ll buy you a raincoat,” he sings mournfully.

Unlike the song’s main metaphor, The Things We Think We’re Missing is by no means a tarnishing spot on the band’s spotless record. It’s the brilliant and long-awaited follow-up to their debut album, Separation, released in May 2011, and a deeper catalogue of singles and splits. The album was written over the band’s two-week reclusion in a Pocono cabin, and then recorded locally in friend Will Yip’s Studio 4. Balance and Composure will celebrate the album’s release alongside fellow friends in Kingston, Pa. punk band Title Fight when both bands play Union Transfer on Oct. 12 with Cruel Hands and Slingshot Dakota.
