The Painted Bride has long been a center for alternative art in Philadelphia, and has just announced the launching of their own record label Live @ the Bride. The first in a long line of live CD releases will be Skins and Songs: Spoken Hand Percussion Orchestra & Phil Hamilton’s Voices.

The compositions were formed over a ten month period by the two award winning ensembles, and recorded during the performance by the 8 voices, 16 hand drummers, and four percussion batteries. The composers and performers make use of musical traditions from around the world to make something that sounds new. As a result of the different vocal styles that include hip hop beatboxing, Balinese monkey chanting, Bulgarian choral praises, and the multitude of different drumming styles, Skins and Songs is as creative as it is culturally significant. With its spirit and and cultural diversity, Skins and Songs is evidence of the beauty that can be found in musical collaboration.

The CD release party that will be held on Saturday, October 26th at The Painted Bride Center. Check it out for a live performance, CDs, food, and raffle. Find tickets to the event here.
