Seattle alt-rock pioneers Pearl Jam kicked off the first night of a two-night stand at the Wells Fargo Center in Philly last night. The band’s set neared three hours and totaled 34 songs with two encores, according to a quick recap posted by the folks at IRadioPhilly.com. Frontman Eddie Vedder took the stage wearing a Rocky t-shirt, and cracked jokes about the band’s last South Philly appearance, at The Spectrum’s final show in 2009. As Dan DeLuca of the Philly Inquirer reported via Twitter, Vedder kicked off the show saying “You were probably here when we tore down the Spectrum, right? F- it, let’s tear down this place, too. But we’ll do it slowly, brick by brick. Let’s make a long evening of it.”

The set was career-spanning and included some of the band’s staple classic rock covers, like “Mother” by Pink Floyd. Watch a video of them playing that one below, and see them ripping up Ten‘s “Why Go.” You can also listen to Pearl Jam’s recent appearance on World Cafe with David Dye, where they were interviewed by director Judd Apatow, and check out the setlist from last night after the jump. Pearl Jam returns to the Wells Fargo Center for night two of their stay in Philly tonight; tickets and information on the show can be found here.
