Local emo rock band Roof Doctor recently released their first single from their upcoming full length album Mobile Freedom Home. You can stream “Dad” below.

A lyrically somber piece, “Dad” opens with vocalist and guitarist Mark Harper pondering “Why am I dead? / I am so young” in a tone similar to that of Doug Martsch from Built to Spill. As we follow Mark through the realization “Oh shit, I spent next week’s paycheck / this year has been such a train wreck / how could I be so stupid?” the guitar cuts out, leaving bass, drums, and a little bit of feedback that make for the most honest and stripped-down verse on the single. During the rest of the song the guitar keeps you moving between an intricate, swift riff and more ambient lines. In this two minute song, the band creates an awesome emo sound that will also be welcomed by those of the indie and punk rock world.

Keep an eye out for the upcoming album Mobile Freedom Home, which was recorded at The Headroom with Kyle Pulley of Dangerous Ponies. Also, check out Roof Doctor at North Star Bar on November 19th with Hopscotch Jefferson and Time Relapse. Find tickets here.
