Canadian singer/songwriter Basia Bulat performs at Boot & Saddle tonight. Bulat swings from playing autoharp to guitar to ukulele, and her resonant voice, which manages to be raw yet full, has garnered comparisons to Joni Mitchell and Stevie Nicks. For Bulat’s most recent album, Tall Tall Shadow, she co-produced with Arcade Fire’s Tim Kingsbury, who also played guitar and bass on some of the tracks. Find tickets and more information for the Boot & Saddle performance here. Download her performance of “Tall Tall Shadow” from her recent World Cafe session below.

Folk / soul ensemble Aaron and the Spell is covering Stevie Wonder’s album Innervisions in its entirety for a benefit concert at World Cafe Live on behalf of Pathways to Housing Pa. The Philly non-profit (where frontman Aaron Brown holds down a day job) helps homeless individuals suffering from mental illness find housing. The concert will include all of Innervisions as well the band’s own material. Opening for Aaron and the Spell is Philly native Sonja Sofya. Yesterday The Key’s Shaun Brady talked with Brown about the event; you can read his interview here. Find tickets and other information here. Watch “By My Side” below.

Singer/songwriter and indie rock icon Jonathan Richman plays Union Transfer tonight. From his early 70s albums with The Modern Lovers, a band which paved the way for punk rock, to now, with his more scaled down acoustic performances, Richman has always been incredibly influential in the world of rock n’ roll music. Find tickets to the Union Transfer show here. Watch her perform “You’re Crazy for Taking the Bus” below.
