Our Gotta Hear Song of the Week is from the Canterbury psychedelic-prog rock band Syd Arthur. The band recently released its debut On an On. “Ode To The Summer” has a bluesy musical base to it, that wouldn’t sound out of place next to anything off of Cream’s Disraeli Gears or Tame Impala’s recent psychedelic rock record, Lonerism. Fronted by guitarist and vocalist Liam Magill and featuring Raven Bush (Kate Bush’s nephew) on violin, “Ode To The Summer” is one of the more funkier songs on the album and showcases the band’s musical dexterity. Syd Arthur offers a fresh take on an old sound; listen to “Ode To The Summer” below. Download another song from the album, “Moving World” here.

Funkier? There is no Funk here, is there? Who writes these things? Do you have any understanding of music, musical terms or anything at all? Ridiculous.

    Great song.

The modified shuffle beat in the drums is very funky. Don’t let the mandolin distract you.
