Weekender brought their Spanish Peaks EP in for a Key Studio Session, recording the debut effort’s four tracks live.  The fuzzy psych / pop four-piece are currently working a full-length with Kyle Johnson set for release early next year, and they’ll be playing tonight’s Making Time $2 Bill show at Voyeur Nightclub.  Stream and download “Spanish Peaks” below and get more info on the show here.

This week we celebrated the release of Be Frank, Furness along with Philadelphia native Heyward Howkins.  The Unlocked feature on the local singer-songwriter produced a stellar review, an enlightening interview and a free download of “Praline Country.”  Stream and download the track below and check out the full profile on Howkins here.

Chris Luedecke came down from Nova Scotia to record this week’s Folkadelphia Session, armed with a banjo and some fine stories of the everyman.  Performing and recording as Old Man Luedecke, the folk singer released his most recent LP Tender is the Night last year.  This session includes a pair of tracks from that album, as well as an older number and one unreleased song.  Stream and download the full set below.

Local cult rock trio Purples have released their first studio recording, an upbeat track called “Standard Human.”  As Key editor John Vettese describes it, the song “has a super cinematic vibe, falling somewhere betwixt a Tim Burton score, a spaghetti western and a surf rock jammer.”  Check it out below and if your looking for more from Purples, revisit their 2012 Key Studio Session here.

Christmas is coming early at XPN as twelve Philadelphia musicians contribute holiday tunes to the station’s 12 Days of Local Christmas.  This week brought free downloads from Amos Lee, Larry Saklad, Dana Alexandra, The Doublewides and Creem Circus.  Stream and download “Pitter Patter” by Dana Alexandra below and stay tuned for more spirited downloads next week.
