Philly hip-hop producer/beatmaker Ill Clinton mixes experimental beats with gritty lyrical flows from local rappers and underground emcees from all over the country on his new LP The Illvolution. Things starts off smooth as North Carolina’s Mallz instructs: “Close your eyes, feel the vibe, and let my voice be your guide” towards the end of album opener “Cold Crush”. We head back to Philly with Crypt the Warchild and King Syze (both of underground group Army of the Pharoahs) on “End It” as the pair praise self-sufficency: “No crew, no love, no clique, no we…”. The rest of the record features rhymes from local emcees including: Firm Taqtics, Carl Kavorkian, Peet Caliber, and Andrew Milicia (on the retrospective “Back In The Day”).
