Mike Bell and the Movies release new LP Nothing Works

Local power pop outfit Mike Bell & the Movies have released a new full-length called Nothing Works on Major Bear Records, two years after their debut Stuck In a TV EP.  Using the frantic but polished punk of Elvis Costello as a jumping off point, Nothing Works filters through the fun-filled, authority scoffing energy of nineties / early 2000s acts but comes out on the side of must-dance-to music.  Though the lyrics often lament a lost love or ruminate on how life doesn’t always go the way we want, the songs move at a pace that doesn’t leave room for much wallowing, instead keeping things upbeat and optimistic.  Stream Nothing Works below and order it on blue vinyl here.
