Foot-stomping folk rock band Katie Frank and the Pheromones will fill MilkBoy with their Americana roots sound tonight. This is the band’s record release party for Counting Your Curses, their debut full-length from Elizabethtown, Pa. native Frank. The band broke through with their country-influenced, twangy sound and shared their tunes with us in a Studio Session. Fit to their sound and style, their newest record was recorded in a homey, carriage-like recording studio outside of Philadelphia with Kawari Sound, according to an interview they did about the new album with The Vinyl District. Joining them will be indie-pop folk favorites The Lawsuits and folk/Americana artist Kevin Killen. This 21+ show will start at 8:30 p.m. Tickets cost $8 in advance, $10 at the door and can be purchased here.
If the Trans-Siberian Orchestra’s rendition of “Carol of the Bells” had a cooler, hipper and vocal cousin, it’d be Philly locals Disco Biscuits. This jamtronica band will ooze funk tonight at the Electric Factory as part of a three-day stint welcoming ICHISAN, RAQ and The Werks. Oh, and even their Instagram is as psychedelic as their sound. Tickets for tomorrow’s show are already sold out, but tickets for tonight’s show with RAQ can be found here.
Two nights, five venues and nine stages. The Lancaster Roots and Blues Festival will be happening all day today and tomorrow. The 50+ musicians will bring a little taste of everything to locations across Lancaster including roots reggae, polka, funk, rock ‘n’ roll and of course, the roots and blues. Tonight’s lineup features artists Shrimpboat, Sugar Ray & the Bluetones, Inca Camper and many, many more. However, Philly jazz favorites Chelsea Reed and the Fairweather Five will play The Ware Center tonight from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. Individual tickets or wristbands can be purchased at the events, and more info can be found here.
