Thievery Corporation, the DC based duo of Rob Garza and Eric Hilton, just released their new album, Saudade. Drawing on the love of Brazilian music that brought them together originally, Saudade draws its influence from classic Brazilian musicians like Antonio Carlos Jobim, Gal Costa, and Luis Bonfá, along with Serge Gainsbourg, Ennio Morricone, and more modern artists like electro-samba pioneer Isabelle Antena. Since their debut, Thievery Corporation have blended a variety of musical styles. In addition to Brazilian music they’ve tapped into jazz, funk, electronica, and reggae. They’re notorious collaborators and over the years have worked with David Byrne, Perry Farrell (Jane’s Addiction), Wayne Coyne of the Flaming Lips, Anoushka Shankar, Sleepy Wonder, Seu Jorge, Chuck Brown, Femi Kuti and others.
WXPN Welcomes Thievery Corporation and Polica to the Tower Theatre on Saturday, May 19th. Tickets are on sale now. Below, download “Depth of My Soul,” with ethereal vocals by Shana Halligan. The song is exquisite and sultry, and set to a symphonic hypnotic groove.
Purchase Saudade here.
