The Melbourne, Australia duo Big Scary includes Tom Iansek on guitar, vocals, piano, and Jo Syme on drums and backing vocals. The band recently released their new album, Not Art, on Barsuk records, for which they won the Australian Music Prize, a prestigious award dedicated to recognizing excellence in Australian music (similar to Britain’s Mercury Prize and Canada’s Polaris Prize). The band are playing Boot & Saddle on Wednesday, April 30th with Say Hi (AKA Say Hi To Your Mom). Big Scary make melancholy, warm, and subtle indie-pop, wonderfully exemplified by the song “Twin Rivers.” Download it below.
