Singer / songwriter and guitarist Jessica Lea Mayfield brings her ethereal vocals and creeping, crunching guitar riffs to Johnny Brenda’s tonight in support of her recent album release Make My Head Sing…. Sometimes touching on psychedlic shoegazey rock, other times inserting her bluegrass roots (she was in a bluegrass band with her family as a young girl), Mayfield’s sound is unique and all her own. Philly indie-punk trio Cayetana play The Fire tonight, joined by All Dogs, Radiator Hospital and Nona. Self-described as “high kicking, boisterous Philadelphians”, Cayetana merge honest, passionate vocals with incessant guitar and percussion. Signed to Tiny Engines Records, they released their debut 7″ for “Hot Dad Calendar” back in March. Check out the band’s Key Studio Session here. Get tickets for the show at The Fire here. Grassroots soul-hop trio Chalk and the Beige Americans play Kung Fu Necktie tonight. With a name that plays on the ludicrousness of skin color and race, Chalk and the Beige Americans style of music is just as varying. With quasi-funk grooves, bass lines, guitar and folk meets gospel styles all intersecting, the Fishtown three-piece incorporates all of the best styles of Philly music. Tickets for the KFN show are $5 and available at the door. The show starts at 8:30.
