As the Penn Relays filled the streets around WXPN with stars of track and field on school buses, one lone tour van made its way down 31st Street. The occupants: Woods, a psychedelic folk outfit from Brooklyn that just released its seventh album, With Light and With Love. Primarily the project of singer-guitarist Jeremy Earl and multi-instrumentalist Jarvis Taveniere, the band has been around for almost a decade, and has released hazy heady albums on its own Woodsist label (not to mention like-minded work from Kurt Vile, Blues Control and Purling Hiss). With Light is perhaps Woods at its poppiest and most accessible, and the band was here to showcase it for the Indie Rock Hit Parade. You’ll be able to hear the session in its entirety on Friday night at 10 p.m. on XPN, but for now, we bring you a taste of it in our My Morning Download. Get your free mp3 below of “Leaves Like Glass,” and stay tuned to hear (and download) Woods’ entire set later this week.
