The Bamboos are from Melbourne, Australia and have been together since founding member and multi-instrumentalist Lance Ferguson started the band in 2000. Built on a passion for funk and soul music, they initially released 45 singles, before they debuted in 2006 with their full length Step It Up, that featured singer Alice Russell on several songs.

Inspired to start the band by Gabriel Roth of the Dap-Kings and co-founder of Daptone Records, Ferguson has grown the initial quartet into a larger group with various vocalists and a horn section, a strong groove filled rhythm section and songs with mighty tight and funky arrangements. The band can venture into broad musical territory and their versatility, along with their fantastic live show, has been the key to their popularity.

The Bamboos recently released Fever In The Road. On the album, there’s a noticeable stylistic shift mixing more rock elements into their sound. Vocal duties on the album are shared by Kylie Auldist and Ella Thompson. Below, download “Avenger,” featuring Thompson on vocals.
